@Tojinbo

@Awe-inspring columnar rock formation (pyroxene based andesite) 50-70 maters high. A national mouument.

The place is named a Heise period monk, Tojinbo, who fell in love with princess Aya, then fell off of one the rocks and died. In fact he was pushed by his rival, Kakunen (also a monk and enamoured of the Princess) during a drinking patty on the cliffs. For many years Tojinbo's trobled spirit returned to bring violent storms to the area on April 5th. Finally another monk held a special memorial servise for Tojinbo, and floated a prayer he'd written out on to the waves. Since then evil spirit has never returned...

Good view from the top of Tojinbo Tower. Boat trips around the rocks and to Oshima Island; excellent sea-food;barbecued squid on sticks, hundreds of gift shops. There's nowhere like it on Japan Sea coast.

Transport : 15 minutes by Keifuku bus toward JR Awara-onsen station via Tojinbo from Mikuni Station get off at Tojinbo.
